12 September 2015: CK vs Shipton
A first league game and CK U18s were well up for the challenge facing our rivals from last season Shipton. Always a feisty game to say the least and this game was no different.
From the start Shipton looked lively and physical as ever, but a toughened up CK gave as good as they got.
Unfortunately it was Shipton on the score sheet first with a badly defended ball, tapped in for an own goal. This seemed to rattle CK and we started to look tired and the fight was gone. 10 minutes later Shipton made it 2 with a flukey goal, catching our keeper in a moment of unusual confusion and losing the ball! Shipton took advantage and knocked it over the line.
The end to the half saw a terrible lunging tackle on the CK keeper, a bookable offence at the very least but which only earned the player a verbal caution.
CK were visibly fired back up after the tackle and the half time team talk spurred the team on and this showed from the outset with more passing football, challenges for the ball and shots on goal. A badly disciplined Shipton were clearly on the back foot now, with CKs newly found energy and confidence and this unfortunately turned in to an all too often occurrence, with their players using their physical aggression to try and bully CK off the ball. The opposition manager tried to take control of the situation, and to CKs credit they kept their heads and their cool.
CK soon started their new season goal tally with a first from Luke Borley, quickly followed by a second. With the score now level CK had a newly found belief and started to play some really nice football.
With 15 minutes to go Luke Borley bagged himself a 3rd and his first hat trick of the season and with a good defensive back line, Shipton were never able to get back in the game.
A very satisfying first 3 points of the season and all the lads walked away heads held high.
It was a fantastic all round team performance today, the second half in particular and to come back from 2 down in a hostile environment, showed real character.
Well done to the whole team today but my man of the match goes to Luke Borley, who from the start looked lively and never gave up and his 1st goal changed the game, to go on and score a further 2 was just an added bonus!
