18 February 2012: CK ANDOVER. 3. Wolversedene. 3
A game of two halves if ever there was with the wind playing its part. CK started well and passed the ball around with confidence. Wolves found it difficult with the wind against them but the wind had no influence on the move of the match, CK passed the ball along the ground with 6 passes going to feet which ended with Jordy Mumford unleashing a powerful shot which smashed against the post and out. We really have had no luck this season whatsoever but whoever saw that move this morning were left in no doubt that when the players put their mind to it they can play some super football. Constant pressure from CK finally paid of when James Broadbent used the strong wind to score direct from an excellent curling corner, his second such goal for this season. Then Charlie Hampton, who had a great match, scored twice, the second a wonderful shot from outside the box. CK led at half time and it seemed in total control. We spoke about the wind at halftime and how Wolves would use this against us, and so it proved. CK found themselves under constant pressure and made it more difficult when Wolves found the net within minutes of the half starting. Two further goals made it 3-3 and CK were now battling for the point. A tremendous effort by all the squad finally secured the draw, especially player of the match Max McGrath who was awesome in the CK defence. Also special mention to George Daykin and Matt Lovering who shared the forward responsibility when both carrying slight injuries. In summary, the negative, some lapses in concentration, on the positive some great football in the first half when the team were never tempted to just use the wind with long ball tactics, and a great fighting spirit in the second half.
28 January 2012: Clarendon. 3. CK ANDOVER. 0
CK produced a battling performance against a strong Clarendon side. Matching them in what was a very physical game on a very bumpy uneven pitch. Niall Kane with some excellent tackles in the CK midfield. The standard of refereeing leaved a lot to be desired and maybe it's time that all teams paid for an appointed qualified neutral league referee as CK do for their home matches. Trailing by one goal at half time we continued to match Clarendon and I thought we always looked like getting the equaliser. However in the last ten minutes CK conceded two sloppy goals, a chance missed to clear the ball for the first, and poor organisation and marking at a corner for the second. Although another defeat for the team there was a much improved hunger and desire and player of the match goes to the whole squad. The standard of tackling was excellent, especially from captain Tom Haynes and Matty Blake, with good performances all over the pitch. Again, positives to take, and lessons to be learnt.
21 January 2012: Andover New Street. 4. CK ANDOVER. 3
CK fought hard against top of the league Street but found themselves trailing when a lack of concentration in the CK defence enabled Street to take the lead. CK then fell further behind to a penalty. It was our first game since December and it showed in areas as CK failed to find their passing. After a bit of a moan at halftime CK then took control of the game in the second half and should have scored but again another silly error let Street increase their lead. Matt Lovering then gave the team some hope with a cool finish after some good work from Jordan Mumford. Now playing some good football CK looked certain to get back into the game but again found themselves conceding. CK were then awarded their own penalty, the street player being sent off for a deliberate handball off the line, Matt Lovering getting his second, smashing the ball home from the spot. CK were now full of confidence and James Broadbent curled a wonder goal in direct from a corner. CK had more chances to equalise and a draw would have been a fair result but they just ran out time. A good first game back after a long break. Charlie Hampton was player of the match for some great work on the left wing. Using his skills and providing some superb crosses.
03 December 2011: CK ANDOVER 0 Sarum Youth 4
Speaking to the AFC Wimbeldon development coach on Weds evening he said that grass root football should never be about results but always about the development of the player both as a footballer and as a person. Something that hit home to me. We spoke about that at training on Friday night and looked at the cup match against 1st division Sarum as a chance to continue how we think football should be played and can we all improve and set ourselves individual targets. Having done youth football for a number of years now, there has not been many times that I have been more proud of a squad of players. From the kick off CK gave 100% giving the Sarum players no time on the ball. No headers were missed all game. Pocession football that resulted in CK creating excellent chances. However, Sarum using the wind with some long shots and balls over the top of the CK defence eventually led at half time 0-4. CK then dominated a second half, did they use the strong breeze to fire long balls up field,no they played excellent passing football, switching play from wing to wing, overlapping the wingbacks. CK again playing much the better football. All the squad put in a top performance but player of the match went to Justin Miller for a solid performance in the unfamiliar position of left back. Perfection can never be achieved but by putting in 100% effort, sometimes we can achieve excellence. Boys,today you were all excellent. Well done.
26 November 2011: Alderbury 4 CK ANDOVER 2
CK lost to a much improved Alderbury team. CK had to shuffle the team when left back Matty B missed the match through injury and so had a number of players playing out of their usual positions. At training on Friday the squad worked on bringing the full backs into an attacking option and keeping poccession. The pleasing part of the match was the team tried to do this but again maybe the physical side letting us down again. Alderbury opened the scoring but CK soon equalised from the spot with James Broadbent getting fouled and then cooling slotting home the penalty. Then Alderbury increased the lead to 3-1. CK never gave up and a lovely passing move saw Jordan Mumford do an inch perfect cross for Charlie Hampton to slot home. Jordan then slipped past the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line. Alderbury nicked a 4th as CK looked for the equaliser. Some shocking decisions from the home officials but having said that an even match thay maybe a more physical Alderbury side wanted a little bit more. Player of the match was shared between Alfie Horlock and Dan Graham who battled hard in midfield and defence when coming on as subs.
19 November 2011: CK ANDOVER 1 Fordingbridge Town 5
Football is funny game when a team loses 5-1 and their manager comes away from the match with a sense of pride and praise for his team, but thats the case today. CK started well against top of the league Bridge and the neutral supporter would have been hard pressed to know which team was infact the league leaders. However CK then found themselves trailing by 3 goals when again individual errors cost them dearly. In the second half Bridge increased their lead before James Broadbent floated an excellent free kick in that the bridge defender could only help the ball into the net. All game CK hassled the Bridge players and were winning headers and tackles. Special mention to Niall Kane for some brave headers and Tom Haynes for completely controlling and taking the tricky Bridge winger off his game. With the ball at their feet again CK played some attractive passing football,playing football the way it should be, .....if god had meant us to play football in the air he would have given us wings......as the great Brian Clough once stated. So I am extremely proud of the squad today, a performance full of determination and we know that in all the games we've played we have not been beaten by better teams but just given away silly goals. Player of the match is the whole squad, So we continue to train hard and continue to learn to pass and play football. Well done lads.
