MATCH REPORTS
27 February 2016: POOR 45 MINUTES ENDED CONTEST
Kings Sombourne 6 CK ANDOVER 0
Although CK faced an awful pitch where you had no idea where the ball would go once it bounced they still had only them selves to blame for a first half performance to forget and this really ended the game as a contest. In the first 15 minutes CK started quite well and didn't really look in any trouble and it really seemed that only the pitch could beat them. Instead of building on the solid start CK then started to make individual errors throughout the team. We seemed to struggle with every aspect of the game. Passing, tackling, tracking back, communication, and poor decision making contributed to them finding themselves 4-0 down. The only part of our game which we could say was good was the way we physically matched an aggressive Kings Sombourne team. CK to their credit took the half time criticism on board and improved in the second half but still rarely troubled the Sombourne keeper. Again some poor defensive play saw them concede a further two goals to end a miserable day. Some games you find one or two players off their game but this performance saw all the players not on the their game. I cannot fault the lads effort and work rate but we really were not good enough in our actual football ability today and every player knows that they are so much better than this performance shows.
20 February 2016: MISSED CHANCES AGAIN
Over Wallop 3 CK ANDOVER 1
Again another close game that saw CK fall short and out of the league cup. The game started as a close hard fought game with both sides eager to get their quick wingers in the game. Over Wallop just had the edge and took the lead but this seemed to spark CK into life. Ryan Morgans working hard on the right wing which led to a chance for Connor Mumford to let fly only to see his effort hit the post. Gen Batteby and Mark Alexander linking up well enabled CK to keep creating chances and when Jordan Mumford broke clear he calmly slotted past the oncoming keeper. This led to Wallop losing their discipline both with each other and the referee. The second half mirrored the first with Wallop again taking the lead. Wallop then had a penalty awarded to them but Dan White who had already produced some quality stops pulled off an excellent save. CK then had two great chances to turn the game on its head. Ryan Morgans racing clear only to see his effort go just wide, and then the usually dependent Mark Alexander firing a penalty over the bar. Even at the end CK had no luck as Connor Mumford looked to shoot on the edge of the box only to be taken out completely by the Wallop defender. Nothing given and as CK stood stunned Wallop broke to score and seal the points. Some great defensive work today from Sam Rea, Eddie Cochran, Kieran Odey, Jay Humphries, and Rhys Collins but player of the match goes to keeper Dan White. A top performance capped by a penalty save.
06 February 2016: DECISIONS COST CK
CK,ANDOVER 1 Kings Sombourne 3
CK again came close to getting their first win of the season and deserved to get at least a point out of a game played on a pitch that became almost unplayable as the game went on. The heavy pitch was never going to suit CK's passing game but the first half saw them play some of their best football of the season as they moved the ball quickly to their wingers and this saw them take the lead with a fantastic goal. Some great midfield passing play and one touch moves saw an inch perfect pass played through the Sombourne defence to Ryan Morgans who cooly took the ball past the keeper and finished superbly. CK needed to hold out until half time but a lapse of concentration and not closing down the player led to Sombourne equalising as they finished well. The conditions were always going to lead to some feisty tackles but CK held their own. The second half saw CK start slowly and Sombourne took advantage by taking the lead soon on and keeper Dan White had to pull of some top saves to keep CK in the game. Then came two decisions that cost CK the points. The Sombourne striker falling to his knees in the penalty area penalty given, and Connor Mumford breaking clear to be tripped penalty not given. Still unsure how the referee came to those two decisions. CK still pushed on for a way back and carved out two excellent chances that Mark Alexander would normally have put away. So a 3-1 defeat and again frustrating but again positives to be taken out of the game. Some great passing at times and a good battling performance from the midfield trio of Jamie Healy, Jay Humphries, and Connor Mumford who again stood up to the physical challenge with excellent determination. Player of the match goes to Ryan Morgans who showed today just what a skilful player he is working up and down the right wing all game and capped it with a brilliantly taken goal.
23 January 2016: CK CLOSE
CK ANDOVER 2 Kingsclere 2
CK were close to claiming all three points in this exciting match on a heavy London Road pitch. Again CK had a changed team with three new players but the team seemed to gel from the off and had a much better shape with Paul Field also returning to bolster the midfield which at last allowed Mark Alexander to lead the attack. CK started well with the new back line looking solid. Ben Keegan playing in a new role at right back and the dependable Jay Humphries and captain Rhys Collins leading well allowed CK to press and this led to their first attempt on goal with Jordy Mumfords free kick forcing a fine save from the Kingsclere keeper. With confidence gaining CK took the lead. Jordy Mumford skilfully beating the full back to cross for Jamie Healy to run in back post and finish well. CK then had to hold firm as Kingsclere applied some pressure but keeper Dan White was in fine form producing some excellent saves to keep CK one up at half time. Kingsclere started the second half well and levelled with a good finish but CK showed great character in re taking the lead. Superb closing down from the energetic Connor Mumford saw him then release Callum Holdway Lopez to cooly slot home as the keeper closed down. CK then just had to remain solid but a good passing move saw Kinsclere draw level. A move that although was impressive CK should have stopped. The last few minutes saw some passionate tackles from both teams with Ed Farrow coming on providing some fresh legs. A draw was probably the right result. Player of the match is shared between two new signings. Firstly Eddie Cochran whose experience in the back line was immense with many important tackles and just sixteen Connor Mumford who brought a new desire in the CK midfield with an impressive first game in senior football. With players still to come back in and if we can keep these players together that elusive win can not be far away.
16 January 2016: A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE
CK ANDOVER 0 TDI Group 3
Although CK found themselves going out of the North Hants cup and disappointed to lose to a team that they could have beaten it was a good display on a heavy and energy sapping pitch. With only a squad of 11 and that consisted of 7 players aged 18 and under it was always going to be a big ask for the team to progress through to the next round. having said that the youngsters showed what a great future this new senior team could have. Both teams found the conditions hard and CK could not play their normal passing game and with no big centre forward to aim at this restricted us in how we could move the ball quickly and keep pocession. CK did carve out one good opportunity in the first half with Ryan Morgans breaking free to shoot, the keeper could only parry the ball away, and George Daykin hitting the rebound just wide. CK continued to play good football in the second half and restricting TDI to few goal scoring chances and it looked as though the game was heading towards penalties. However with 20 minutes left to play CK's concentration lapsed and TDI took the lead. Within minutes and with the young CK heads down they increased their lead and it was game over. To their credit CK kept battling to the end but with no subs and the heavy pitch the players struggled at the end. In fact TDI scored two of their goals while CK players struggled with cramp. So CK can be proud of a performance that saw U18 players Adam Knight make an excellent debut and Player of the Match Callum James playing beyond his years at right back not putting a foot wrong all game and attacking with pace when he could. Frustrating to go out but the future looking good at CK.
19 December 2015: IMPROVEMENT FROM CK
CK ANDOVER 1 Sutton Scotney 4
Again CK only had 12 players and then reduced to 11 at half time so again they were up against it when playing a team only beaten once this season. The first half seemed to be a mirror of last weeks performance as we looked quite comfortable in the first 10 to 15 minutes but then poor marking and not looking at the forward coming off our back line to receive the ball led Scotney to open the scoring. With minutes CK fell further behind when giving away a soft penalty. Dissapointing goals from corners then followed and it looked as if CK may be on the end of another big defeat. However it is amazing what a goal can do and when Ryan Morgans worked hard and released the ball to Mark Alexander to finish superbly CK looked a different team. At half time we looked at building on that goal and to be fair to the team they did that and worked extremely hard to hold one of the better teams in the league to a goalless second half. Tom Jarvis saving a penalty well after a blizzare incident leading to the referee awarding another penalty. CK also created more chances as Ryan Morgan and Jordy Mumford became more involved. Jordy Mumford almost curling in an effort just wide which would have really got the Scotney nerves jangling had it gone in. So an improved performance from the CK team and great fighting spirit in the second half typified by player of the match Dan Andrews who had an outstanding debut at left back.
