MATCH REPORTS
08 October 2016: CK CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR DOWNFALL
CK ANDOVER 2 Kingsclere 5
In my opinion the team gave up the chance to really make the league sit up and take notice as they faced joint top side Kingsclere. CK started well again and soon got into their quick pace game. Closing down quickly and giving Kingsclere no time on the ball. CK were soon creating chances with George Daykin crossing well for Elliot Smith to just fail to make contact. More chances followed but they came back to haunt us as Kingsclere took the lead. Kingsclere really only had the outlet of their quick left winger and they used it to good effect. With the unwell Jamie Healy needing to come off substitute Ryan Morgans took minutes to make an impact smashing the ball home from just inside the box. At half time we spoke about now making the most of our hard work and continuing to close quickly and make the use of our pace uphill. Unfortunately a poor decision started the CK collapse. It was never a corner but having said that the team should have taken control and cleared the ball. Further errors and a lack of discipline which affected the team for a ten minute spell saw them trail 1-4. CK then began to forget that and again play some good football. Again chances came and went before Connor Mumford lost his marker to finish well. If the earlier chances had gone in then it may have been a different story but with time running out Kingsclere scored again to make it look more convincing than it really was. Disappointed with a number of issues today but a massive positive that we ran a top team so close. Player of the match was Jordy Mumford who did not put a foot wrong at left back or when switched to look after the pacy winger.
01 October 2016: CK WELL BEATEN
CK ANDOVER 0 Broughton 6
Was it a lack lustre performance by CK or was this much changed Broughton just a very good side. Probably a bit of both as CK found themselves well beaten and out of the league cup. It was an awful CK performance in the first half that saw them completely off the pace with little drive or confidence which is hard to believe after their positive start to the season. Although being warned before CK gave away two penalties in about as many minutes. With Broughton being allowed the freedom of the pitch it wasn't long before they cruised into a six goal lead. The only glimmer of light was a good move by CK that saw Jamie Healy taken down by the Broughton keeper. He was the last man and with the Broughton defence chasing back some could argue it was a straight red. The referee decided a yellow was sufficient. It was an unacceptable first half performance from a team that are capable of so much more. To their credit CK came out in the second half and did play better but the match was long over. A good lesson for the young squad against a team that dropped down a league. Player of the match goes to Tom Jarvis for some crucial saves and keeping the score respectable. Also a mention to Ben Lock who put in some excellent last ditch tackles. We learn from every match and take what positives we can. We go again next week.
24 September 2016: YOUNGSTERS INSPIRE FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
CK ANDOVER 5 Spartans 2
CK's game plan worked a treat today against an experienced Spartens side but only because every player did there job excellently. With Gavin Chapman and Mark Alexander holding the midfield this allowed the pace of Connor Mumford, Ryan Morgans, and Morgan Vanandel to support the energetic Elliot Field upfront at almost every attack. CK completely controlled the first half and went ahead when Connor Mumford rounded the keeper and scored from an almost impossible angle. Elliot Field then latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the box to smash home. CK looked as if they would score at every attack and they made it 3-0 through Morgan Vanandel following up well to finish. The only down side was the loss of keeper Tom Jarvis through illness but Ed Farrow put the gloves on and did a solid job all game. We knew Spartens would come out strong in the second half but before they could settle CK had made it 4-0. Ryan Morgans pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty box to finish cooly. Then came the only time CK took their foot of the pedal. This allowed Spartens to gain some confidence and they scored two quick goals and give CK a tough ten minute spell but the back line of Ken Gates, Ben Lock, Rhys Collins, and Jordy Mumford were superb. CK then killed the game off with Mark Alexander slotting home a penalty after the Spartens keeper had held Connor Mumford. With Keiran Rowe adding some extra fight in the holding midfield role it was then never in doubt. A great performance today with CK looking dangerous every time they got the ball. Player of the match is again shared between a few players. It goes to the 16 year old lads playing. All showed tremendous skill and guts.
17 September 2016: CK TAKE WELL DESERVED POINT
CK ANDOVER 3 Broughton 3
CK earned their first point of the season in their league opening fixture against Broughton. It was a well deserved point and had it not been for some fine saves from the Broughton keeper it could have been an opening day win for the young squad. Starting with a 4-4-2 formation CK started to create chances from the off and it was Keiran Odey who timing his run to perfection ran clear to steer the ball past the keeper. Broughton then came more into the game and it wasn't long before they levelled when CK failed to stop a run that started from their defence. Battling against a slope and the wind in the second half CK then changed their formation to a 4-5-1. This bolstered the midfield and also gave a chance for a player to sit in the gap between the midfield and forwards. It was Broughton however who took the lead with the unfortunate Ben Lock scoring an own goal. Last season that could have signalled a collapse but to their credit CK pushed on and a fine finish from Connor Mumford saw them level. Both teams then had decisions go against them with Broughton denied a sure penalty and CK a goal ruled out for offside which was far from it. Broughton then scored what looked like a winner with a well taken goal direct from a free kick, but with minutes remaining CK levelled again with a well worked goal. Jamie Healy making a great run to the bye line and putting a perfect ball in for the incoming Connor Mumford to smash home. Both teams on reflection could have stole the points today and a draw was probably a fair result but CK will look back on a number of missed chances in the first half that could have put the game to bed early on. Having said that they showed a great fighting spirit to come back after falling behind twice. Player of the match this week must go to the whole squad for a promising first match especially the younger lads making their debuts in senior football at the age of 16 and not looking out of their depth in any way.
