CK ANDOVER - UNDER 16s 2011-12
CK Andover Under 16s entered the 2011/12 season with a few new signings, but with the majority of the squad having played their football at CK for six years or more we were looking forward to another successful season and weren't disappointed.
LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Winning eleven and drawing just one of their first twelve games CK secured the League title barely three quarters of the way through the season. Dropping points in only one of their remaining games resulted in a fifteen point winning margin and a goal difference of 49 - thirty better than their closest rivals.
CUP FINALISTS
Wins in three Cup ties saw CK reach the Final against Charlton Royale, but faced with a number of injuries CK failed to overcome Charlton in a tightly contested match.
A successful and very enjoyable season. Thanks to all parents for their support and above all, to the players for their commitment and team spirit.
MATCH REPORTS
03 December 2011: CK ANDOVER 3-2 Upper Clatford (Cup)
CK got off to the best of starts and after a couple of chances Tom Stacey broke down the left and cut in to score on his birthday and put CK ahead with only a few minutes played. Clatford broke through and put the ball in the net but were ruled offside. CK had most of the early possession and after 15 minutes Mike Stacey ran on to a through ball and slotted it past the keeper for another birthday celebration. Dan Andrews made it three for CK when Clatford failed to clear a corner and his shot found the goal through a crowd of players. Three ahead after twenty minutes and CK seemed to have it sewn up but Clatford battled hard to get themselves back in the game and their effort was rewarded when they forced errors in the CK defence and capitalised to score twice in the last five minutes of the half.
The second half was a far more even game. With both sides going for the win they created chances and at times left themselves vulnerable at the back. Brendon Bennett's shot was pushed onto the post while in CK's goal, Rob Hoey made some good saves. In the last five minutes Clatford scored from a corner, but the referee blew for a foul on the keeper and the Cup tie was decided in normal time. CK won 3-2 and go through to the quarter-finals.
26 November 2011: Lyndhurst 0-3 CK ANDOVER
On a small pitch and with three players missing CK knew this game was going to be tough and would require determination, patience and teamwork. Lyndhurst started well and initially CK were second to the ball and were pushed into their own half and only occasionally managed to create any real opportunities of their own. A change of formation allowed CK to get into the game but good saves by Lyndhurst and Tom Smith meant there were no goals going into half time.
CK started better and put pressure on the hard-working Lyndhurst team. After ten minutes and a couple of missed chances the ball came wide to Alex Deere and his shot floated over the keeper and didn't need any help to get it in the back of the net. Fifteen minutes later and Rob Hoey's hard work in left midfield presented him with an opportunity to shoot and score from the edge of the box to increase CK's lead. Despite a couple of scary moments at the back CK stuck to their task and as Lyndhurst began to tire, Andre Coelho scored a third to secure the win.
A great team effort.
17 November 2011: CK ANDOVER 1-0 Charlton Royale
Another win for CK that was secured within the first ten minutes as Dan Andrews created a bit of space for himself and then saw his shot fly beyond Charlton Royale's keeper. Charlton battled hard throughout and proved difficult to break down. Although CK dominated the game, it was disappointing that they didn't take advantage of the possession and opportunities they enjoyed, particularly in the second half, to make it a more comfortable win.
Rob Hoey had little to do in goal for CK, but made a couple of good saves and came out twice when needed.
12 November 2011: CK ANDOVER 4-1 Upper Clatford
It was a heavy pitch and a misty morning but CK got off to a bright start. Early pressure paid off and within five minutes Luke Bourner rode a couple of tackles before setting up Will Haighton who stroked the ball from the edge of the box into the back of Clatford's net. Five minutes later and the lead was extended when Brendon Bennett ran onto a Mike Stacey through ball and calmly slotted it past the keeper. There were no real dramas for CK's defence and several more goal-scoring opportunities with Dan Andrews hitting the post, but Clatford began to get themselves back in the game as CK appeared to take their foot off the pedal. It remained two-nil going into half time.
Both teams started the second half well, but when Lewis Parksinson volleyed home a goalmouth clearance for CK's third the result seemed settled. The heavy pitch began to take its toll and play slowed considerably. Tired legs gave CK several chances but only Luke Bourner was able to take advantage and push CK's tally to four. Clatford kept fighting and in the remaining minutes were rewarded with a consolation goal.
05 November 2011: CK ANDOVER 6-3 Lyndhurst
CK started well again despite the two week break over half-term. Good passing and patient play soon created chances as CK kicked downhill. Luke Bourner smashed it against the post and the Lyndhurst keeper made a couple of good saves before Brendon Bennett broke the deadlock after fifteen minutes to put CK ahead. Lyndhurst continued to work hard, closing down CK quickly and breaking fast when they had the chance soon gave them an equaliser. Brendon got a second and it looked as though CK would go into half time ahead, but in the final minute of the first half Lyndhurst were awarded and scored a penalty to put things level again.
Playing uphill, CK went on the attack and within minutes of the restart Dan Andrews began a superb second half performance by beating several defenders before putting in a simple cross for George Appleton to tap home and put CK ahead for the third time. Dan kept dribbling his way through the Lyndhurst defence and after a few chances was finally rewarded with a goal to make it 4-2. Lyndhurst kept fighting and looked as if they would get back in the game when they scored their third, but within minutes Tom Stacey had restored CK's two goal advantage. The last fifteen minutes were played out in Lyndhurst's half of the pitch, but it wasn't until the final corner of the game that Luke Bourner headed in CK's sixth to finish the game off.
15 October 2011: Test Valley Lions 1-5 CK ANDOVER
Perfect conditions gave both teams an opportunity to play some decent football. CK pretty much dominated the first half and their persistence eventually paid off as they were awarded a penalty when a TV Lions defender handled before clearing a cross. Owen Trapnell scored the penalty and CK maintained the advantage going into half time.
CK got the second half off to a flyer and within five minutes Andre Coelho shot across the goal from outside the box and found the bottom corner. Just minutes later Dan Andrews volleyed home Rob Hoey's cross and then Alex Deere flicked in a header from a well worked short corner by Dan Andrews and Tom Stacey. It was still only twenty minutes into the second half when Tom Stacey headed in CK's fifth. Test Valley Lions didn't give up and their effort was rewarded with a consolation goal when they lobbed CK's goalie Tom Smith straight from the kick-off to restart the game.
The final twenty minutes was played out, with neither side really dominating or creating many opportunities.
