CK ANDOVER - UNDER 16s 2011-12

CK Andover Under 16s entered the 2011/12 season with a few new signings, but with the majority of the squad having played their football at CK for six years or more we were looking forward to another successful season and weren't disappointed.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Winning eleven and drawing just one of their first twelve games CK secured the League title barely three quarters of the way through the season. Dropping points in only one of their remaining games resulted in a fifteen point winning margin and a goal difference of 49 - thirty better than their closest rivals.

CUP FINALISTS
Wins in three Cup ties saw CK reach the Final against Charlton Royale, but faced with a number of injuries CK failed to overcome Charlton in a tightly contested match.

A successful and very enjoyable season. Thanks to all parents for their support and above all, to the players for their commitment and team spirit.

08 October 2011: CK ANDOVER 6-0 Alderbury
After last week's disappointing draw, CK got off to a far better start and early pressure created plenty of chances. Good running and brave challenges from Brendon Bennett provided an opening for Tom Stacey to follow up and score CK's first. After several near misses, goalmouth scrambles and hitting the post twice, it was Will Haighton who played a ball through the defence and Brendon Bennett ran on to score and maintain his goal-a-game record.

In the second half CK pushed forward and really took the game to Alderbury and created more and more chances. Despite a number of good saves from Alderbury's keeper, further goals seemed inevitable. CK hit the bar and the post again before Alex Deere got his head on a Lewis Parkinson throw-in for CK's third. Dan Andrews dribbled all the way through the defence before crossing to George Appleton for a well taken tap-in. Andre Coelho ran onto a Lewis Parkinson pass and finished well for CK's fifth, while Luke Bourner's determination saw him run through the defence to score the sixth and final goal.

Alderbury battled hard throughout the game and did create chances of their own, but solid goalkeeping from Rob Hoey maintained a clean sheet.

01 October 2011: CK ANDOVER 4-4 Redlynch
CK started the first half kicking down the slope at Barrow Hill and had hit the cross bar and missed a few half-chances within the first twenty minutes only for Redlynch to shoot and score to take the lead. Within five minutes CK had hit the cross bar again and then drew level when Luke Bourner volleyed home a half clearance from Redlynch, but within another five minutes Redlynch had restored their lead as an umarked player on the edge of the box scored from our own half-clearance.

2-1 down starting the second half and CK created more chances hitting the cross bar for a third time but poor marking and a defensive mix up allowed Redlynch two soft goals and really put the pressure on CK. With nothing to lose CK went up a gear for the last fifteen minutes. Dan Andrews pushed up and once he got through the defence calmly stuck the ball past their keeper for CK's second and then he dribbled his way through their defence to put in a cross for Brendon Bennett to tap in CK's third. Sensing a comeback, CK threw everything at it and when the ball fell to Will Haighton on the edge of the area, he put it straight in the top corner to draw level again.

Another five minutes and we could have stolen a win, but the final whistle ended the game at 4-4.

24 September 2011: Alderbury 0-3 CK ANDOVER
Alderbury made a good start and forced Rob Hoey into action early on with one particularly good save keeping the teams level. CK got into the game and created a few scoring opportunitites but weren't really playing good football. A change of formation after 30 minutes pushed Tom Stacey forward and he soon got to the touchline and crossed for Brendon Bennett to score the goal he deserved having put in so much running while up front on his own. Soon after, a good move from a throw in allowed Alex Deere to cross the ball into the box for Tom Stacey to get a goal of his own and put CK two ahead going into half-time.

The game opened up a little more in the second half and both teams played better football, Alderbury smashed it against the post while CK squandered some good chances, but on 70 minutes with almost his first touch substitute Tom Smith played a great ball through the defence for George Appleton who calmly stuck it past Alderbury's keeper to make it 3-0 to CK and secure the win.

17 September 2011: Upper Clatford 0- 3 CK ANDOVER
A strong start for CK in their first game of the season against local rivals Upper Clatford. The midfield battled hard to win the ball and tracked back well to help break down Clatford's attacks. A well organised back line fed the ball through to the midfield and gave them the freedom to play passing football and create opportunities for themselves and the striker.

The first ten minutes provided a few chances and before long a speculative shot from Dan Andrews crept between the keeper and the post to take the lead. CK kept pressing forward with good play down each wing, but it was a series of short passes inside Clatford's box that enabled Brendon Bennett and then Luke Bourner to score and take a three goal lead into half time.

Clatford came out fighting in the second half and found themselves with more of the ball and managed to take the game to CK a bit more. There were chances at each end throughout, but some missed opportunities combined with good saves from Tom Smith in goal for CK saw the game finish with the score still at 3-0.

30 August 2011: CK ANDOVER 1-1 Shrewton (Friendly)
In our first friendly of the season CK were up against a good Shrewton side. Despite having to swap players around quite a bit to make up for our missing goalkeepers we managed to keep our shape and created a good number of chances without becoming overstretched in defence. Michael Stacey scored for CK to take the lead and could have got another soon after to extend the lead but his shot flew past the post. Shrewton continued to attack and created chances of their own forcing good saves from the two first half goalkeepers Joe Carter and Luke Bourner. CK hit the post, but then conceded a penalty which allowed Shrewton to draw level. Tom Stacey hammered a shot against Shrewton's bar, but at half time it remained 1-1.

The second half saw CK under a little more pressure as they were kicking uphill, but the game remained even throughout with both teams enjoying a physical game with plenty of action and goal scoring chances and good saves at either end.

A good run out before the start of the season.
