18 October 2014: WORTHYS VS CK ANDOVER
Worthys 5 CK Andover 0
Without wishing to be disrespectful to Worthys, this was to be our best chance of changing our luck this season, as they had been suffering from the same results as ourselves.
For the first time, we were able to field a squad of 15 and felt quite positive that we were going to have a good game.
Unfortunately we started sluggish and never really got a grip of the game and conceded some early goals which put us on the back foot. At half time we found ourselves 4-0 down and with not much to cheer about.
The half time team talk was a sombre affair, mainly feeling disappointed with the collective effort and was looking forward to a big improvement in the second half.
The second half started a lot better for us, with more urgency in our game and players trying, which made all the difference.
Although we conceded one more goal, losing the game 5-0, the second half performance had definitely improved and we were unlucky not to score ourselves on a couple of occasions.
One thing that seems quite obvious to me at this stage of the season is our fitness levels, as we have too many players walking about when we should be running. This will be addressed at training.
Finishing on a positive, the team spirit is still high and looking forward to our first positive result.
Man of the match was Leon Machin for a good general attitude and effort.
04 October 2014: BEMERTON HEATH HARLEQUINS VS CK ANDOVER
BEMERTON HEATH HARLEQUINS 10 CK ANDOVER 0
After a really good training session, with lots of positives, CK U13s travelled to Bemerton Heath in Salisbury.
After looking at their league results so far, we were ready for another tough day at the office.
Our regular keeper and right back, missing through injury, added to the woes but with Charlee Sawkins in goal and Leon Machin back from injury the game started evenly with CK almost taking the lead after 15 minutes but we just couldn't get the ball over the line.
However, although at half time we did find ourselves 4-0 down, the score line flattered the opposition and the game was a lot closer than the score suggests.
The half time team talk was full of positives, with contributions from all players on the areas needed to improve.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first but unfortunately for CK a few mistakes across the pitch cost us dearly.
Although the score reflects a one sided match, the players never gave up at any point, which was echoed by the referees comments, that the players from CK are a credit to the club and league by the way they conducted themselves throughout the game and by never letting their heads drop.
On a personal note, I don't think I've ever been around a group of guys who have suffered such heavy defeats and yet truly believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that all will come good and for that I am very grateful. I for one am looking forward to the next game.
