CK ANDOVER - UNDER 16s 2011-12

CK Andover Under 16s entered the 2011/12 season with a few new signings, but with the majority of the squad having played their football at CK for six years or more we were looking forward to another successful season and weren't disappointed.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Winning eleven and drawing just one of their first twelve games CK secured the League title barely three quarters of the way through the season. Dropping points in only one of their remaining games resulted in a fifteen point winning margin and a goal difference of 49 - thirty better than their closest rivals.

CUP FINALISTS
Wins in three Cup ties saw CK reach the Final against Charlton Royale, but faced with a number of injuries CK failed to overcome Charlton in a tightly contested match.

A successful and very enjoyable season. Thanks to all parents for their support and above all, to the players for their commitment and team spirit.

29 February 2012: TWYFL U15 Rep Team 0-1 CK ANDOVER
This was always going to be a tough game against the best of the TWYFL Under 15s. Mostly comprised of players from the unbeaten Compton FC and from Bishops Waltham they had recently earnt a 2-2 draw against Sholing Under 16s who are currently fourth in the City of Southampton Youth Football League.

The game got off to a very quick start with every tackle fiercely contested. CK's defence stood strong and as the midfield started to create some opportunities. In the 10th minute we got the break we needed as the ball fell to Luke Bourner from Lewis Parkinson's long throw-in. Luke created some space for himself before sticking it past their keeper. Every player gave 100% as we closed down the Rep Team and attempted to create more chances. Before the half was out we began to tire and gaps began to appear in the midfield, but substitutions were made and we maintained our lead going into half time.

Injuries forced CK to start the second half with a few players out of their normal position and as a result we began to lose our shape and conceded possession to easily. We spent a good twenty minutes camped in our own half, but managed to absorb most of the pressure from the attacking Rep Team. A few more substitutions and we were back in the game and created some opportunities of our own but were unable to capitalise and extend our advantage as the Rep Team began to tire.

A very good and close game for all concerned - many thanks to TWYFL for inviting us to play.

18 February 2012: Alderbury 0-3 CK ANDOVER (Cup)
Having not played for two weeks due to bad weather, both teams were keen to get this Cup quarter-final under way. After a well contested first five minutes a very brave attempt to head the ball clear left an Alderbury defender on the ground having taken a boot in the face. Sadly his injuries were such that the game had to be stopped and an ambulance called to take him to hospital. This affected both teams considerably and it was a very subdued game that restarted and continued at a slower pace.

Good movement and passing allowed Luke Bourner to shoot and score from the edge of the box for CK to take the lead on twenty-five minutes. Two softer goals for Dan Andrews and Brendon Bennett followed within five minutes and the game was all but over.

The second half was played out with little incident - a few good saves from the Alderbury keeper kept the score to three-nil.

28 January 2012: Littleton 0-1 CK ANDOVER
Despite an enormous pitch CK didn't use the space to their advantage and failed to put together any decent passes. Littleton battled well and although they posed little threat up front, their packed defence gave us only a few chances to score.

The second half was a bit better for CK as we managed to spread the ball a little wider and take advantage of time on the ball, but Littleton continued to close us down and defended well. Mike Stacey was finding space on the left-hand side and kept pushing towards goal and on sixty minutes, after a couple of near misses, he scored from Andre Coelho's cross to put CK ahead.

One goal proved to be enough as the game drew to a close and both teams held on to the final whistle.

21 January 2012: Redlynch 0-1 CK ANDOVER
In very windy conditions this competitive game could have gone either way. Playing with the wind in the first half Redlynch were able to put pressure on CK and won a string of corners but failed to convert their chances. At the other end, CK worked hard to retain possession and take some pressure off the defence. Several chances were created and perhaps should have been scored, but it remained nil-nil at half time.

CK benefitted from the wind at the restart and kept Redlynch pegged into their own half. Dan Andrews finally got the break he was looking for and this time he confidently stuck it past the keeper to put CK ahead. CK maintained the pressure for the remaining half hour and although their defence were untroubled, CK were unable to capitalise on further chances to extend the lead.

07 January 2012: CK ANDOVER 5-0 Worthys
Despite their positions at the top and bottom of the League, the teams were quite evenly matched for much of the first half and there was little to trouble either keeper. Worthys defended in numbers and frustrated many of CK's early efforts, but a change in formation gave Daniel Andrews the freedom to create more chances and assist Brendon Bennett and George Appleton in attack. On the half hour Dan ran onto a through ball from Will Haighton and scored to take the lead. Minutes later Dan found some space in the left-hand side of Worthy's area, turned and chipped it over the keeper to double CK's lead going into half time.

A downhill second half enabled CK to push on the Worthy's defence and allow more space in the midfield. Andre Coelho used the space and time well to control the ball and look up before lobbing the keeper from a good thirty yards. Will Haighton pushed forward from midfield and was in the six yard box when he scored from Alex Deere's cross. Both CK and Worthys continued to create chances but CK's defensive line proved too strong and Tom Smith finished the game off when he smashed a shot into the top right corner from just inside Worthy's half.

17 December 2011: CK ANDOVER 10-2 Test Valley Lions
It was a fairly tense start to the game and for twenty-five minutes both teams fought hard to try and win the crowded midfield battle. It was Test Valley who struck first with a cross/shot clearing Tom Smith in CK's goal. This stirred CK into action and CK had three shots blocked before Tom Stacey stuck it in the net to equalise. Dan Andrews headed in Tom Stacey's corner and then Rob Hoey came in at the back post to get another. Within five minutes it had gone from stalemate to 3-1. CK had chances to extend their lead, but going into half-time there was still only two goals in it.

Playing downhill CK pressed hard on Test Valley's defence to keep the ball in their half. Dan Andrew's dribbled his way through the defence and stroked the ball past their keeper to make it four, but Test Valley weren't finished yet and scored another on a break. CK were stirred into action again and as Test Valley tired the goals started to come; Tom Stacey's shot from outside the area couldn't be stopped, Will Haighton calmly stuck one in from close distance, Andre Coelho made a volley for himself and scored to make it seven, Luke Bourner charged through the defence to score and Owen Trapnell ran onto a free ball in midfield and his long range shot found the net before Mike Stacey curled in a corner which the Test Valley keeper just couldn't keep out.

From a very tight start it ended up very one-sided as CK created chance after chance and finished well to win 10-2.
