CK ANDOVER - Under 18s 2014/2015

Winning isn't everything.......but wanting to win is.

A challenging season ahead which will see the squad competing a year above their age group but one which will see the lads develop as individuals and as a team. With players leaving from last season and new players joining us we look forward to the season ahead.

20 September 2014: UNLUCKY CK DESERVED A POINT !
New Street 1 CK ANDOVER 0

Another display from CK full of determination. Before the match we spoke to the lads that when we play against these older and stronger teams we may get beaten on the pitch when matched against their size and skill but never on passion, belief, or work rate. From the opening pass CK pushed and hassled New Street forcing errors and as the half went on began to build their own confidence up. All over the pitch they showed composure on the ball when in possession and went not showed the desire to get it back. One superb CK move saw a twelve pass move switching play and ended in a close shot from Liam Walters. Level at half time we knew that maybe tiredness may creep in to our play and New Street did start the better in the second half but again CK battled and always looked comfortable. The only time New Street did look dangerous was at corners and this was to be CK's undoing as we let a ball make its way to the far post where it was bundled in off a shin ! To be fair CK still kept pressing and were unlucky again as another quick passing move saw Liam Walters again shoot just wide. Great performances all over the pitch today but player of the match goes to Callum Lopez Holdway for a great shift in the midfield. Thanks for the support today both myself and Jamie believe the squad put on a great performance for you all and praise also from the opposition today as a parent came up to me and congratulated us on how we played. I think everyone watching agreed we deserved a point today. Apologies to Lewis Reed who did not get on today and again taking the decision so maturely. Well done again lads.

13 September 2014: CK SO CLOSE !
CK ANDOVER 1 Worthy's Red 1

Sometimes when you concede in the last 10 minutes a draw can feel like a defeat but not in this case as the under 17' squad pushed their older opponents all the way and were so close to a opening win. With the game plan worked out last night and some final advice this morning CK started slowly but then confidence started to come into their game. With the midfield closing down quickly and our holding midfielder breaking up most attacks CK started to frustrate Worthy's and then began to create chances of their own. A great move on the right wing saw Harry Plummer overlap and put a great teasing cross into the box which Liam Walters hit goal wards forcing the Worthy's keeper into a fine save. CK restricted Worthy's to just two dangerous free kicks as the game fell into a hard fought midfield battle which suited our game plan. At half time we spoke about continuing our high work rate and pressured play and to use our pace up front which had showed some success in the first half and it was this that put CK ahead. Again superb tackling in midfield saw the ball break to George Daykin who showed great strength and pace to hold off the defender and cooly slip the ball past the goalkeeper into the net. CK now had control of the game and it looked as if we could seal an excellent 3 points. However a split second turning off of concentration saw a cleared corner drop to an unmarked player and he finished well past an unsighted Edward Farrow. This saw Worthy's now look for the winner and CK had to dig deep and defended superbly. Harry Plummer heading off the line to stop one attack. The final whistle finally came and saw a squad of players who had worked so hard to secure the draw. A great squad performance today and anyone could have won this award but Player of the match goes to Niall Kane who in the holding midfield role had a excellent and disciplined match which enabled our match plan to work so well. Special mention also to Justin Miller who did not get on today and also Ethan Stoodley who had limited pitch time but who both took the decision with the right attitude. Well done Lads.
